Get ready to experience a brand-new interpretation activity at the Zoo! 

Offered at set times, Tandem Encounters bring together a naturalist-interpreter and an animal care technician for dynamic, spontaneous and discovery-filled presentations. 

Designed as a question-and-answer experience, these duos invite you to attend a snack time, training session or enrichment activity while giving you a behind-the-scenes look at daily animal care. Surprising anecdotes, fascinating facts, challenges of the profession and the unique personalities of our animals: everything is designed to encourage exchange, closeness and interaction with visitors. A privileged opportunity to learn just as much about the animals as about the passionate people who care for them every day!

African Elephant

Discover the fascinating world of Tutume, Thandi and Sarah during a live biomedical training session presented by our specialists. Learn how our technicians work with these impressive giants every day to support their well-being, health and mental stimulation through enrichment and positive reinforcement training. Through touching anecdotes, surprising behaviours and behind-the-scenes insights into animal care, this encounter will help you see elephants in a whole new light.

Mandrill and Mantled Guereza

Attend an animated snack time where social behaviours take centre stage! Presented alternately in the habitat, mandrills and guereza colobus reveal fascinating group dynamics made up of interactions, communication and even the occasional little squabble. Discover the personalities of the different individuals and learn how technicians observe and support these intelligent primates every day.

At 1:00 p.m.

Amur Tiger

Silent, powerful and impressive, tigers are among the most fascinating predators in the animal kingdom. Enjoy a snack time presented by our teams to observe these big cats up close and discover what it takes to work with large carnivores. What are the challenges involved in caring for them? How do we support their well-being and stimulation? Ask your questions and speak directly with the people who work alongside these majestic predators every day.

Japanese Macaque

Playful, intelligent and incredibly well adapted, Japanese macaques are among the Zoo’s most beloved animals. This presentation takes you into the daily lives of these fascinating primates, known for their complex social behaviours and their remarkable ability to withstand the harshness of winter. Discover how their group works, how individuals interact with one another and why the world’s northernmost primate continues to captivate visitors of all ages.
