Hippest...potamus!

See 4,500 kilograms of hippo swimming in 360,000 liters of water! The Hippo's River allows visitors to observe Kibocco, Polita and their baby Alcide underwater with a thousand tropical fishes.

Hippos once inhabited Italy and England! They might even have been used as combat animals against crocodiles in Roman circuses! Less than 150,000 of these giant aquatic pachyderms are now left and they can only found in Africa.

There are two recognised species of hippos: the common hippo (Hippotamus amphibius) like we have at the Granby Zoo and the pygmy hippo (Choeropsis liberiensis). When compared to its cousin, the pygmy hippo seems tiny.
