The African Savannah

This year, experience the adventure of walking on the Trails of Africa that run through the African Savannah. You might see elephants playing and bathing in the water! You will also be transported to another world in the new shared living quarters of the zebras and rhinos, just as in a real savannah.
Since its opening over 50 years ago, the Granby Zoo has been home to great mammals of Africa: elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos. They are still a popular attraction for young and old. In 2007, the public is invited to travel to the heart of Africa, a true expedition into the Dark Continent, leading to the discovery of these fascinating species.
Recreating the bush
Recreating the African bush in Quebec is a most challenging endeavour. Each species occupies a piece of land that includes a watering hole. Some of them cohabit, such as the giraffes and the commond elands. The vegetation and the setting contribute to the illusion of being on a real journey.

Slender-tailed meerkats in Namibia, white rhinoceroses in Zambia, African elephants in Tanzania, giraffes, Grant's zebras and African lions in Kenya, lowland gorillas and mandrills in the tropical forest of Western Africa: fascinating species through which we discover the countries of Africa and learn something about their culture.

Mythical Sites to Visit
During this expedition through several border checkpoints, travellers might come across Henry Seeyal, the gamekeeper who often leaves his campground to look for poachers. They might also meet a wild life-crazy reporter working on a feature in the bush.

It's impossible to be indifferent to the sight of rhinos or zebras in areas recreating their natural habitats. Other notable sites are a poacher's den, an elephant cemetery and an archaeological dig site that are guaranteed to arouse visitors' curiosity. An expedition in this new savannah promises to be captivating. Equally breathtaking are the Gorilla Valley inside the tropical forest, and the Hippos' River that end the journey.
