Get ready for a trip around the world!

The 5th Great Wines Tasting organised by the Granby Zoological Garden Foundation will be presented on Tuesday October 21, 2008 at Granby Zoo’s Le Marché restaurant.

To mark this 5th tasting, Mr. Alain Bélanger, renowned sommelier and proud emcee of this event since its creation, will have surprises in store for us during this journey of discovery around the world.

The legal office of Grégoire Poitras Payette Rhéaume Messier, major partners of this benefit event, will have the added support of Les Galeries de Granby, La Voix de l’Est and RBC Dominion Securities.

This activity draws the attention of guests who, other than the sensual pleasures provided by the wine tasting, enjoy being around a table where a convivial atmosphere reigns. The most fitting words to define this evening are the satisfaction and enthusiasm of the people who collaborate at the assorted Foundation projects.

Date: Tuesday October 21st, 2008

Location: Granby Zoo’s Le Marché Restaurant

Time: 6:00 pm

The number of tickets is limited to 132.

Mission

The Granby Zoological Garden Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has committed to the following mission:

- promote, support and financially assist the Granby Zoological Society in order to allow it to pursue, at a level of excellence, its activities at the Granby Zoological Garden.

- support, consolidate the financing of construction, renovations, expansions, development of buildings or spaces and the purchase of various equipments at the Granby Zoological Garden.

- promote, encourage and support popular education, research, as well as the training of Granby Zoological Society personnel at its Zoological Garden.

The Foundation also supports the Granby Zoological Society in its conservation of species of threatened or precarious status, thus contributing, along with many other zoos worldwide, to the preservation of balance between Man, fauna and the environment so that tomorrows children will inherit a healthy planet!

To the Snow Leopard's Rescue

The Foundation now wishes to concentrate its next fundraising campaign on building a habitat for its snow leopards, a threatened species that has been residing at our Zoo since 1988.

In fact, Granby Zoo plays an important role in the preservation of this species, whether in captivity (ex situ) or in the wild (in situ). Further to recommendations by the Species Survival Plans (SSP), two young snow leopards from two institutions will be reunited in Granby for reproductive purposes. Of the 365 specimens kept in captivity inside 153 zoological institutions, 23 cubs were born in the last 12 months, of which only six in North America.

It is also thanks to the financial support of the Granby Zoological Society, among orthers, that the International Snow Leopard Trust was able to carry out research, conservation and education programs in China, India, Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic where almost half of the snow leopard population has been lost to poaching.

The Foundation welcomes the help of everyone in the support of this cause, the perservation of the magnificent charismatic species that is the Snow Leopard.

The Foundation is proud of its Accomplishments

Generous donors have played an important role in the building of the new veterinary hospital, as well as the purchase of equipement and instruments destined for the hospital. Thanks to the contribution of assorted government levels, the Zoological Society Foundation, it can be said: Mission Accomplished.

Moreover, the Foundation insists on supporting the Zoo's assorted services and educational programs essential to making every age group aware of the stakes in the consevation of animal species and the preservation of our planet's biodiversity.
